Jungle to Jungle:
I thought I had left the jungle only to find myself in another jungle. Before moving to San Jose in Nov. 2004, my family lived in Africa for six years, doing mission work. It was a "jungle" in the sense there were many physical dangers and threats that you don't encounter in North America (eg. tropical diseases and tribal fighting).
Then suddenly time came for us to leave. It was a big change to move here and adjust. For me it was additional challenge to take up this ministry in a setting quite different from what I had been used to. Here is the headquarters of cutting edge information technology and other trend setting industries. I could sense that there are strong forces of individualism, materialism, consumerism, and hedonism at work. So powerful.
Then I realized we are in a spiritual "jungle" full of dangers and threats to our souls. How vulnerable we are to the power of godless forces! How desperately we need God's power not only to survive but to establish His kingdom, His reign here. For God has a purpose and mission for us. So God calls us into communities of faith so that we can encourage one another and continue to grow and become mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
New Hope English Ministry strives to be one of those communities for people of various backgrounds. We envision a mission oriented community of Christian sojourners earnestly seeking to realize the biblical ideals for personal and communal life of faith, nurtured and expressed by open and authentic worship, relevant and sound teaching, and welcoming and team-building activities.
I invite you to come on board wherever you are in your spiritual journey. Don't get lost in the jungle!
